Advantages of iPhone Accidental Damage Insurance

iPhone accidental damage insurance is not something many people think about until their phone actually gets broken. Some phones may come with a manufacturers' warranty which does give some comfort that the phone provider will sort out any problems that arise during that set warranty period.

But the manufacturers' warranties may typically only cover breakdown or malfunction of the phone due to a defect in the product. iPhone accidental damage insurance may also extend to mishaps that occur that do not involve a fault with the product itself.

In any event, no warranty continues indefinitely. When the period of manufacturer's or phone vendor's cover runs out, paying for repairs or having to replace your phone yourself can prove expensive.

Peace of mind

iPhone accidental damage insurance gives you the peace of mind of knowing that should something go wrong (eg. the iPhone breaks down outside the warranty period or is accidentally damaged), the problem will be sorted (in the event of a successful claim) by your insurer.

Even if you could afford to pay for repairs to a broken or damaged phone out of your own pocket, organising for the repairs to be carried out and the time it takes for the repair to be completed can be stressful. Some iPhone insurers will attend to your problem and have your phone delivered back to you within 48 hours of your successful claim on the policy. Of course, it may be worth checking the details of each policy on this point as providers differ on the level of service and cover they offer. In addition, for most policies, should you make a successful claim, you will be expected to pay an excess, which you should have been made aware of at the time of taking out the iPhone cover.

More than accidental damage

iPhone cover does not just extend to accidental damage and break down outside the warranty period. Policies may be available to include theft too.

The risk of theft

Unfortunately no matter how careful you are with your phone, there may always be a risk of it being stolen. Although having your iPhone taken will be mean immense inconvenience, at least you would not lose out financially if you have adequate cover in place to provide a replacement*.

Before you are able to make a claim, an insurance provider may typically ask you to report the phone as stolen to the police and get a crime number for the incident.

However, you may not consider it worth holding out much hope that the phone will ever be traced and find its way back to you, as thieves are quick and efficient at disposing of them.

Be aware that exclusions and limitations apply to the cover as, for example, some policies may only pay out for theft if there was evidence that force was used to break into your house or a locked compartment of your car (like the glove box).

Breakdown

You may wonder why you need the breakdown part of iPhone insurance if your phone comes with a warranty. Additional iPhone cover may be worthwhile in this scenario because warranties run out at some point, at which stage extra cover may be very helpful.

Finally, when choosing your iPhone accidental damage insurance do note that exclusions and limitations will generally apply and terms and conditions as well as price will vary from provider to provider. Therefore, it is important to always ensure that you are buying the cover that is most suitable for your needs.
